The first dry fly ides of the year

After the suc­cess­ful start at wed­nes­day and the con­ti­nuously rising water tem­pe­ra­tures in the last days, I was able to catch the first Ides of the year with the dry fly and a few roa­ches on the nymph, too. The roa­ches will start to spawn soon so I’m going to con­cen­trate on fis­hing with the dry in the near future. At the River Main the popu­la­tion of cypri­ni­des enor­mously decrea­sed so the Fische­rei­ver­band Unter­fran­ken amongst other sto­cked a lot of roa­ches to react to this pro­gres­sion. Start into the season at the River Main

Fly fis­hing for cyprinids After a long, hard win­ter and a couple of unsuc­cess­ful tries to hook a fish at the River Main it finally worked out for me. Des­pite hard wea­t­her con­di­ti­ons like hard wind and rain I went out for a little after work fis­hing for cypri­nids. In the first hour there see­med to be no fish except a few of this tiny bighead gobies but when it began to dawn the fish were more active and I was able to hook 3 roa­ches up to 35 cm and a nice asp with my phea­sant tail nymph.
