Carp on the fly

Actually, I just wanted to test some new streamer and leader combinations for the upcoming predator season at the River Main, but it became a successful fishing day with great fish and my biggest carp on a fly rod. The carp took a nice orange wet fly, the pike and the roach nailed a small 4cm long Wooly Bugger. Arge Sinntal stocking

For many years now, the Arge Sinntal is taking a stand for repatriation of fish species in the “Sinn”, that are extinct or only existing in very few numbers. Besides the common nase, barbel, and several small fish species like loach and minnow, the Arge above all is taking care of the population of the grayling. The populations of the smaller species have evolved splendidly, but among the grayling there were many casualties, due to the massive raids of cormorants in the winter. These losses had to be compensated this year by stocking again. Read more about it on Arge Sinntal. […]

Fly fishing for pike at the Kinzig Lake

On Thursday it was finally time to fish at the Kinzig Lake in the Kinzig Valley. According to great fishing reports I’ve read I started early in the morning to give me a chance to secure the early rising pikes at the lake. The lake is pretty fly-fishing-friendly, since all the hot spots such as reeds and cabbage fields in shallow water are accessible by waders. However, the conditions were not the best: the blue-green algae bloom was in full swing, the water was very warm (23° C) and the otherwise frequently occurring small fish were not seen anywhere. So […]

Rainbow trout on the fly at the Main River

The Main River is full of surprises, and this 55cm rainbow trout I caught on a nymph at an estuary of a small creek is beside the golden ide my personal favorite.
