Nymph-Blank PacBay quickLine FAF1005-4

On the hunt for a keen but qualitative good blank for nymph fishing, a fellow dutch rod builder recommended the new quickLine series from PacBay. – Yes, austrian river Salzach got me there with nymph fishing, see the next report for more information. – I decided to take a 10′ 5wt. After unpacking, i was surprised about the quality, even the tip was straight. This isn’t even ensured with premium blanks of well-known manufacturers. This build will recieve PacBay guides just this once, a Bellinger uplocking reel seat and a fighting but is already mounted. More about casting characteristics, when the […]

Latest build Sage VXP 490–4

Here are some new pictures from my latest build. Its a Sage VXP 490–4 blank. I casted the rod just once yet but i can tell you its a rod which generates really high line speed. In fishing words, you can present your fly clean and straight at distance casts. We leave in a couple of weeks for a trip to Norway and Sweden i am very excited what Mr. and Mrs. Brown will think about my long line presentations. CTS Vintage – the noodle is not al dente

Here is a little report from my new build. I listed some specs about the CTS Vintage here. I casted the rod with different line setups: DT1 works best for dry fly fishing with sparse CDC patterns up to hook size 12. The DT1 is more accurate to cast than a DT2. The heavier line load the blank deep into the butt section and it is a lot of fun to roll cast this one. Believe me this rod bends into fish… Related posts: Latest build Sage VXP 490–4 Rod building Sage xi3 – something for the big ones CTS Vintage blank – the noodle arrived Aufbau Thomas & Thomas […]

Rod building Sage xi3 – something for the big ones

A fly fishing buddy reminded me about some rod building projects which are on the list since some time. I have to finish a Winston WT 7’0″ 3wt, CTS Vintage 7’6″ 2wt, the Sage xi3 9’0″ 9wt and a old Sage Graphite which needs some polishing. Finally i finished all the thread work on the Sage xi3 and baked some really nice quallity floor cork rings for the handle. CTS Vintage blank – the noodle arrived

Finally after »some« time of waiting my blank form CTS arrived today. It is the Vintage series FV762-3 custom cut and custom color which takes some extra time too. The longer delivery time is pretty normal at CTS. Here are some specs.: Lenght: 7’6″ Aftma: #2 Sections: custom 3 pcs Color: custom yellow (regular graphite gloss) Weight: 0.74 oz. Action: slow After unpacking the blank from the tube one point was clear, this is the yellow what i was looking for! I put the pieces together and even without mounted guides the stick or i should better say the »noodle« felt completely different. This build will get a Struble U-25 uplocking reel seat and […]

After some testing of different lines i was pretty happy with the Lee Wulff TT in 4 weight. The Winston WT(stands for »Winston Trout« or »Winston Traditional«) series is not picky to line up but you have to make sure you do not […]
